History
| Personal History | Shae grew up near the sea in a family of shipbuilders and engineers. His father, Malcolm Tyler, managed a small civilian dockyard that specialized in deep water vessels, while his mother, Isla, taught physics at a local university. From an early age, Shae displayed a fascination with how things worked. He would often spend hours disassembling and reassembling household machinery, much to his parents’ frustration. This continued until he was in middle school, when he graduated to more complex machinery. After completing secondary school, Shae was accepted into Starfleet Academy with a focus on engineering and propulsion systems. Known for his work ethic and straight forward manner, he quickly earned the respect of peers and instructors. His first posting was aboard the USS Archon as an Assistant Engineering Officer. Shae spent his first years learning the fundamentals of starship engineering on a front line exploration vessel, often assisting in field repairs and warp core diagnostics. During the Dominion War, Shae served aboard the Rubicon in a support and repair capacity, performing emergency refits and system triage during multiple fleet engagements. The experience was harrowing but formative, teaching him resilience and the value of clear headed leadership during chaos. Post war, Shae transferred to Utopia Planitia, where he was part of a joint engineering R&D team charged with starship and systems upgrades for multiple Starfleet ship classes. His contributions earned him recognition within the Corps of Engineers. He learned the intricate details of multiple starships, although he focused himself more towards the Sovereign class starship systems as well as the class in general, becoming something of an expert on the Sovereign class ship in the process. In 2380, Shae was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and assigned to the USS Aegis. Serving aboard the Aegis was Shae’s first step into leadership. He managed power system allocation during an ion storm crisis that crippled part of the ship’s warp grid, personally leading repairs under hazardous conditions. His calm efficiency earned him a Starfleet Commendation. With the commissioning of the new USS Endeavour, Shae was selected as Chief Engineer due to his extensive knowledge of the class and the recent upgrades. Despite his initial doubts about stepping into such a prestigious role, his technical expertise and steady temperament made him an ideal choice, which is something he is still trying to get used to. |
