History
| Personal History | Ethan Cole was born in 2356 in Vancouver, Canada, on Earth’s North American continent. The son of Daniel and Rebecca Cole, both Federation engineers working in orbital construction and materials logistics, Ethan grew up surrounded by technology, starship schematics, and a quiet reverence for Starfleet. His childhood was comfortable but disciplined. His parents were hardworking Federation civilians who took pride in their contributions to infrastructure projects that supported Starfleet operations, particularly the rebuilding efforts that followed the Dominion War. Though neither were officers themselves, they encouraged Ethan to pursue a Starfleet education, believing it was the natural extension of their family’s service to the Federation. From an early age, Ethan showed a strong aptitude for systems logic, mathematics, and pattern analysis. His fascination with computers and starship architecture often led him to spend hours reprogramming his family’s holo-interfaces or disassembling household replicators just to see how they worked. During secondary education, Ethan’s instructors noted his natural curiosity but also his tendency toward overcautiousness a trait that carried forward into his adult life. He rarely made mistakes but when he did he took them personally. This perfectionism became both his greatest strength and his most persistent obstacle. At age 20, he was accepted into Starfleet Academy in San Francisco majoring in Starship Operations and Logistics Management. There he excelled academically earning top marks in systems integration, bridge operations, and multidepartment coordination. He also made close friends among cadets who would go on to serve across the fleet, though he was often known as the quiet one of the group and the cadet who stayed behind to double check the diagnostics before heading to the recreation deck. Ethan’s first active duty assignment came aboard the USS Chula Vista in 2380. It was an aging vessel but for him it represented a dream fulfilled. His duties included coordinating power distribution during relief efforts and managing cargo allocations during resupply runs. While the work was repetitive and far from glamorous, it taught him the discipline and patience needed to keep a ship running smoothly the kind of behind the scenes diligence that Starfleet quietly depends on. When the USS Endeavour was commissioned and staffed in 2382, Ethan requested reassignment and was approved. The move represented both a challenge and a personal milestone: his first deep-space assignment aboard one of Starfleet’s most advanced vessels. |
