Personality & Traits
| General Overview | Amelia Valke is a civilian legal and diplomatic consultant attached to the USS Endeavour, providing expertise in interstellar law, treaty negotiation, and Federation policy. A former Starfleet JAG officer, she transitioned into civilian service after several years in uniform, seeking greater autonomy to apply her skills where she felt they could make the most meaningful difference. Though warm and personable, Amelia carries an unmistakable edge with a sharp intellect honed by years of legal debate and political negotiation. She is confident and pragmatic, capable of switching between charm and firmness depending on the situation. While she projects calm professionalism, those who know her well understand that she is deeply idealistic and holds a strong moral compass, though she often hides it behind a veneer of detached professionalism. | |
| Strengths & Weaknesses | Amelia has an exceptional understanding of interstellar law, Federation statutes, and diplomatic protocol. She is a highly persuasive communicator and is able to read a room and adapt her tone instantly. She is rarely rattled, even during volatile negotiations or moral confrontations. However, she is occasionally overconfident in her own judgment and may disregard command authority if she believes the moral or legal course of action differs from her own judgement. She sometimes finds it difficult to emotionally detach from causes or individuals she believes in, leading to burnout in such cases if they are extended for an extended period of time. She is also distrustful of bureaucracy and slow political processes, preferring action over procedure. Though outwardly poised, she suppresses personal emotions, leading to bouts of quiet frustration or loneliness. | |
| Ambitions | Amelia does not seek rank or power. Her ambition lies in making tangible differences in the lives affected by policy and law. |
History
| Personal History | Born in 2348 in London, United Kingdom, Earth, Amelia was raised in a family of legal scholars and diplomats. Because of this, she was exposed early to debates of ethics, law, and interstellar politics. Her father served as a Federation Council legal attaché, and her mother was a linguist with the Federation Diplomatic Corps. In 2366, she was accepted into Starfleet Academy and pursued a dual track in Law and Interstellar Relations under the Judge Advocate General (JAG) program. Amelia quickly became known for her sharp intellect and measured temperament and just as quickly gained a reputation as a natural mediator and an incisive legal mind. She graduated from Starfleet Academy in 2370 and was assigned to the Office of the Judge Advocate General on Earth where she assisted in arbitration hearings involving Federation starships and disputes with member worlds. In 2373, Amelia was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade and assigned to the USS Resolution as an Assistant JAG officer. Her duties mostly involved legal counsel to her commanding officers during wartime operations, an experience that tested her idealism and shaped her pragmatic worldview. In 2376, she was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the Federation Diplomatic Corps liaison staff. She assisted in postwar reconstruction treaties, working particularly with Cardassian and Bajoran representatives. She also worked closely with Starfleet Command as an embedded legal and diplomatic advisor. Citing a desire to work beyond the confines of military hierarchy, Amelia resigned her Starfleet commission in 2378 and transitioned to civilian consultancy work. Her expertise in interstellar law and Federation diplomacy made her a sought-after independent mediator for colonies and frontier worlds. She received an offer to work as a civilian legal and diplomatic advisor for Starfleet in 2381. Accepting the offer, she was attached to the USS Endeavour. |
