Mission: Shakedown: Taking Flight

"Ros check the injectors, Ros check the warp drive platform, and Ros recalibrate the lateral sensors. For the third time in one week!" Jera snarled as she practically ripped the access hatch off and threw her tool belt through it. It was easy for the majority of the engineering crew to tell when she was fed up and in a bad mood by now. It was easier when she was pissed off at Mark Vaughn. The tyrant that ruled the Endeavour's engineering staff had taken a special interest in giving the most complex and a time consuming job to her, and it was driving her insane. In a single week she had spent over 80 hours on duty and for no other reason than the fact that she was always given the most difficult jobs.

It wasn't that she didn't enjoy a challenge or like her job, to the contrary Jera enjoyed her work. It was the idiot CEO that she minded. As she climbed into the Jefferies tubes and grabbed her tool belt as she started towards the main control station for the lateral sensors, Jera had to remind herself that Vaughn's days on the Endeavour were numbered, and although no one knew for how long it was the only comfort she had at times.

The trip to the control station took Jera half an hour, mostly because she had decided to take her time just to irritate Vaughn. There were two ways to calibrate the sensors, the easiest was to use one of the control panels instead of manually calibrating each pallet. Each panel controlled three pallets, and there were five located at specific points throughout the ship. The placement sometimes drove Jera insane, but they had been placed in logical locations near the center of the ship. The idea was that the sensors could be operated and set to different settings from the control panels in the event that it was too dangerous to manually work on the pallets directly. The placement simply meant that someone had to crawl to the panels in order to operate them. In this case, Jera had decided to reset the forward pallets simply because it made sensor to her.

Arriving at the control panel for the arrays she intended to recalibrate, Jera sat down and activated the panel. A missing ship meant that ops wanted to scan for exhaust gasses and traces of hull material. Most civilian survey ships had an extra strong durasteel alloy simply because they often operated in dangerous and unknown areas. Jera set the sensors to scan for the required specific scanning parameters and uploaded the settings. That done, she deactivated the panel and started off towards the bridge to check in with ops.
