Mission: Prologue: The Gathering

"Yes?" Innovindil said, trying to hide the unhappy tone in her voice.

Mark Vaughn marched through the doors and into the XO's office with Walker and Ros in tow. He noticed the purple haired civilian and the food on the desk and made a mental note to punish the two engineers for having caused the incident and interrupting the XO's lunch. He stopped in front of the desk ad turned to eye the young civilian, sneering a little at her lip and nose rings before he dismissed her completely and turned back to the XO.

"Commander, these two so called engineers caused a problem with the hot water system earlier. I've seen to it that the system has been repaired, but I wanted to personally apologize for your inconvenience earlier," Vaughn said.

"My inconvenience?" Innovindil asked, letting her confusion show as she briefly glanced towards the two engineers who had accompanied Vaughn.

"You called in and reported that your hot water wasn't working this morning," Vaughn said as if he were speaking to a being less intelligent than he.

"That was me," Elanawen said quietly. She had stepped over to the side so she wouldn't be in the way when the three engineers had entered, but now she took a step forward as she spoke.

Vaughn turned and stared at the civilian before he spoke. "You called in an official report and impersonated a Starfleet officer? I thought civilians working on Starfleet ships were more intelligent than the normal mundane idiots out there. Just how stupid are you?"

"Lieutenant Commander Vaughn!" Innovindil snarled angrily as she shot to her feet and leaned across her desk. The tone in her voice had shifted to one that had an edge sharp enough to slice through the durasteel bulkhead behind her if it had been given form. "If you ever speak to any civilian, or any Starfleet personnel, in the manner you just spoke to my daughter again, I'll personally see to it that you spend an entire week in an E.V.A. suit in the forward airlock with the outer doors locked open! Do I make myself clear?"

Vaughn actually flinched at the sheer viciousness in the XO's voice as he realized that he might have gone too far with his attitude. Shifting uneasily, he nodded. "Yes Commander, I understand."

Behind Vaughn, Jera was trying hard not to burst out laughing. Vaughn was a decent enough engineer, although that was stretching her opinion by far, but as a person he was worthy enough to be among those who needed to be removed from the herd and beaten until he learned his lesson. She actually was starting to hope that she and Walker might make it out of this meeting without having to explain what had caused it.

Kev flinched and braced to attention as if the Xo were talking to him and not Vaughn. If there was anything he had just learned, it was to never get on that woman's bad side. Ever. The fact that the Xo was willing to jump on him and dress him down in front of others meant that she was probably more serious than the uptight CEO realized.

Innovindil pinned Vaughn with a dangerous glare that dared him to even twitch for a long moment before she turned her attention to the two engineers standing behind him. She took a few seconds to recall what she could remember from their service records. Jera'turak Ros had been in Starfleet for quite some time, and although she was good enough as an engineer that she should be either a Chief Petty Officer or even a Warrant Officer, she had a number of disciplinary problems that had kept her career from advancing much. Kev Walker was a recent graduate from Starfleet Academy who actually held a Bachelors in starship engineering, clearly someone who wouldn't make a mistake intentionally.

"Alright, what happened to cause this hot water issue?" Innovindil asked, softening her tone so she hopefully wouldn't scare them too much.
